Emmené dès 1971 par Jeff Lynne (qui travailla entre autres, avec les Beatles, The Beach Boys et Bob Dylan), Electric Light Orchestra groupe Anglais de Birmingham fut l'un des tout premiers groupes rock à intégrer violons et violoncelles dans un combo classiquement basse guitare batterie. Ce groupe légendaire aux millions d'albums vendus de par le monde est curieusement quelque peu ignoré à tort du grand public en France. Pourtant nombres de titres d'Elo ont été repris soit dans des thèmes de séries, (The Office en Angleterre) de films (Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind de Michel Gondry) soit par des groupes comme Beautiful South et Atomic Kitten.
